We need to change the way we do business.

If you’ve decided to go it alone and grow your own business, you’re probably finding it tough to make things work.

The pace of life is getting faster, our benchmarks for success ever higher, and thousands of micro-business owners are facing entrepreneurial burnout, trying to cover up their stress and exhaustion with ‘love-my-life’ smiles and filtered images on social media.

It’s not just the cashflow that needs fixing: your mental health and well-being are at stake here.

If you are ready to make money, make an impact and thrive in the process, True Profit Business gives you a simpler, more connected path to business success:

· Clarity – understand what your bigger vision of success looks like and how business growth really works

· Structure – get clear on the five Growth Pillars to ensure sustainable growth

· Flow – discover when to Lean Back and when to Lean In to enable an effective energy flow between thinking, planning and taking action

· Process – discover which of the five True Profit Business Models will enable you to thrive.

True Profit Business not only helps you diagnose what’s going wrong for you, it focuses you on your bigger game and shows you the building blocks – the processes and people – you need to turn your expertise and talents into a purposeful, playful and profitable business.

This book is written in a very easy-to-digest way and contains some brilliant insights and new ways of thinking – essential for anyone running or looking to set up in business.

I love the waffle-free and no-nonsense style of this guide to running a business the happy way. But even when telling it like it is, Karen maintains her focus on helpfully steering her readers in the direction of less stress and more ease in their work. What I found especially motivating was how this links into making a bigger difference in the world, because it seems that by working in a way that’s natural to us, we’ll in turn be released to (as Karen puts it) ‘play a bigger game’.

Oh wow, finally a business book that recognises that we are not all robots built to work until we burn out. Karen eloquently teaches us through her writing a new way of working. A way where we can thrive and work in alignment with our values and energies. Bravo Karen!!

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book and have read it cover to cover in a matter of days. It’s an easy read – unusual for a business book – and is both inspiring and accessible. Packed with insight drawn from the author’s own career as well as great exercises to help you get really clear on how best to create the business you want without sacrificing your life to it! Thoroughly recommend for anyone starting – or already running – their own entrepreneurial business.

What I love most about this book is how practical and down to earth it is. Karen Skidmore shows you the exact steps to have a profitable and successful business in a way that works for you. It shows you how to create a business that nourishes and fuels you at every step on your business journey.

It’s full of practical exercises which will take you to where you want to go – and it’s written in a fun engaging style. I love it – a must read for every business owner.

This book is much more than an “how to” (although it covers that too). Karen challenges and encourages us to feel into the type of business we wish to create, the difference we want to make. Illustrated with useful examples throughout, I found this book both inspiring and practical and it enabled me to take actions to refocus and progress my business. Highly recommended!

This is a terrific book because it is helping me to put into action a proven and simple-to-implement system to get more clients without feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
I highly recommend it for any entrepreneur who wants to grow their business with focus and enjoy the process.

A great read; a book that not only helps you focus on the what of business, but also helps you focus on the how, especially when it comes to doing it without burning out. Highly recommend.

Absolutely love this book it’s much more than a business book. Follow the steps in the book and you end up with a brilliant decision making framework and compass for how to run not only your business and to make better decisions, but one which you can also apply to your life as well. Karen’s easy to read style and practical application of her ideas is highly recommended.

An excellent book! Highly recommend this to all in business!

This book is a must read for anyone who is running (or is thinking about setting up) their own business selling their own expertise, knowledge, skills or talents. No one hands you a rule book when you start your own business and it’s tough. Probably the hardest thing you will ever do. However, it’s tempting to buy into the stories of “easy riches” pedalled by other entrepreneurs, typically selling their own courses on how you too can become a millionaire working from your laptop on the beach for a couple of hours a day. When this doesn’t work out for you, you feel a failure and work even harder to try to succeed – because after all, if you can’t reach the million a year mark, you are a total failure… right…? Well in my view, wrong. And this is why I love this book. What Karen has skilfully demonstrated by sharing with us her own business models, her own business experience and examples from her years of helping other business owners with this struggle, is that there is more to business than hitting arbitrary turnover goals and burning out in the process. I completely agree that as business owners we need to meaure our success not just by the bottom line but by impact, community, humanity, health and well-being. This is an insightful read, infused with Karen’s delightful humour and down to earth commentary. I love Karen’s True Profit Business Model, particularly the Leaning In and Leaning Back energies and the True Profit Compass. Most of all I love her compelling reasoning as to why we should not blindly follow what the business gurus tell us we should be doing, but to trust our intuition and to do what is right for us as individual business owners. A fabulous read.

Extremely practical and insightful book. It’s remarkable how the author has managed to pulled together so many elements that go into running a business, to make a coherent step by step guide to grow the business you want.
Highlights many pitfalls and doesn’t shy away from topics such as burn-out, and contains many valuable lessons.
Have already found myself dipping back into it – there is a lot of ground covered and is certainly will be revisiting it again and again.

Karen has put together a great no-nonsense narrative examining the potentials and pitfalls of self-employment and the entrepreneurial dream. She advocates a change to the way we push ourselves (to exhaustion) to build a business we can be proud of and that sustains our life, family and fun times. At a time when technology is supposed to be helping us not hindering us, Karen shows us how to cut the madness, to lean back, face our inner fears and self-doubt, stop comparing ourselves to others, reground our true motivations and tune into our creativity and natural flow. It’s all common sense we too easily forget in our busy day to days. The book provides the strategic guidance and practical exercises to navigating the business building process.

As a business owner who has been on a similar journey juggling life challenges, health challenges and business challenges, I wish I’d had this wisdom and practical guidance years ago instead of resolving it all alone. Karen describes her experience and feelings of exhaustion, indecision and hiding away through fear and doubt. She articulates the emotions so insightfully, she might just as well have been recounting my own story, it’s spot on. The book helped me to see my journey is not untypical, that I’m on the right track and what I want is within reach. It’s been a great reminder to get specific with my plans and to choose a business model that matches what I truly want in the longer term with what suits my preferred way of working with clients and energy flow.
